About me

I've been into computers since primary school. After finishing secondary school in the nineties, I built my first PC with a friend's help. It stuck, and I've built every computer of mine myself ever since. Around 2010 I started experimenting with Linux, specifically Ubuntu, and I've kept an up-to-date LTS release on my laptop ever since. Later I tried running a home server too, but I never really got the hang of it — the command line was never really my strong suit. Then I stumbled onto the NAS distro OpenMediaVault — and fell for it completely. :-) It's my favourite IT project by far. I'm not an IT professional, just an enthusiast; I worked my way up to Linux, OpenMediaVault, Cloudflare, and other more advanced challenges gradually — partly out of a need for backups and remote access to my data, but mostly because exploring what Linux can do was, and still is, something I genuinely enjoy.

Most of what I know came from trial and error, and lately AI models have genuinely helped a lot. I started with ChatGPT and I'm now also trying Claude and Gemini — which is why the site mentions that here and there. I didn't build this site to claim I do things "the right way," but to show a real, working setup from one enthusiast, and hopefully inspire anyone working through similar questions.
